No matter our personal views on religion, global warming, or current affairs, there’s no denying that the world is spectacular. Often, we get so caught up in those other issues that we forget to appreciate what’s all around us. In fact, we forget to enjoy nature so much that we often damage it with our actions. It’s incredibly important to take note of nature, and teach your children to do the same. They are, after all, the generation that is going to need to preserve everything around us.
We’re all busy, and it’s never easy to take time out. That’s why our vacations are the best times to look at the world around us. When we’re away, we can clear our minds and look with open eyes! But, some holidays are better than others for appreciating beauty. Visiting a favorite resort is all well and good, but there might not be much to see! In fact, the best way to enjoy nature on vacation is to stay close to home. This option also has the benefit of showing you nature local to you. Nature you should appreciate every day!
Camping is the most obvious choice for a little nature appreciation. If sleeping under the stars doesn’t open your eyes, nothing will. Camping trips can also help your kids to learn valuable skills. After camping in the great outdoors, they’ll know how to start, keep, and cook on a campfire. Find out which is best camping stove and get going. They may also learn a thing or two about the stars at night time, though that’s completely down to your teaching! To get the most from your camping adventure, it may be worth banning electronic devices. Nobody’s going to look around enough if they have their head in a phone. And, how often are we guilty of that? Instead, plan fun, natural activities to keep everyone amused. Plan hikes in the local vicinity and set your kid’s challenges to do with nature. Ask them to find certain types of trees or flowers.
Camping doesn’t appeal to everyone, of course. If that’s the case, there’s still plenty of holiday options open to you. Even when you’re staying in a hotel, there’s nothing to stop you visiting national parks nearby. National parks are amazing, and it’s important you make the most of them. Visit natural parks with terrain unlike anything your kids have seen before. Seeing nature unlike any they’ve experienced is sure to make them sit up and take notice. And, that’s what you want. Make sure that you, too, sit up and pay attention. There are fantastic sites to see if you’re looking for them!
Or, you could turn to the wildlife to get your nature fix. Many areas arrange nature walks to spot different types of wildlife. Pick one that appeals to the whole family and get your boots on! You never know what amazing things you might see. Again, it’s worth setting challenges to keep the kids on board.
