Earth Day 2015 is April 22nd. That’s this week! It’s important to do put forth our best effort when it comes to being green everyday. Earth Day is a great day to review some of the ways we can do our part. I’ve compiled a short list of 20 things you can do to help save the earth.
Recycle: Water bottles, paper, books, cardboard boxes, glass, aluminum and most metal and plastic can all be recycled.
Pay Your Bills Online: Opt for electronic statements instead of paper.
Turn it Off: If you’re not in the kitchen, turn the light off in there. Is the TV on? Are you watching anything?
Walk & Ride: Whenever possible walk or ride your bicycle instead of driving.
Set it on Cruise: This gives you better gas mileage and leaves more money in your wallet at the same time.
Lower Your Thermostat & Use the Air Sparingly: You’ll save money doing this too!
Rake by Hand: Don’t use the leaf blower it uses to much energy.
Compost: Designate an area in your backyard and pile up your grass clippings, left over vegetables, egg shells and more. You can use this rich soil to fertilize your garden.
Conserve water: Wait to wash your clothes until you have a full load. Turn the faucet off when you’re brushing your teeth. Teach your kids to do the same. Take shorter showers and only fill the tub water half way full.
Wash Your Clothing in Cold Water: Switching from hot water to cold water helps save massive amounts of energy.
Carpool: Do you live near someone you work with? Save gas money and take turns driving each day.
Donate: Do you have something you don’t need anymore? Donate your unused items and clothing to your local second hand store.
Change Your Light bulb: Swap your old light bulb for the new, compact florescent light bulbs.
Hang Them to Dry: Make a close line with rope and hang your clothes to dry on the line with clothes pins when it’s nice and sunny. This also helps save money!
Plant a Garden: If you want to take this one a step further set a couple buckets outside and collect rain water to water your garden.
Participate in Meatless Monday: Read more about this movement to help reduce resources here.
Buy Bottled Water From Companies that Recycle: Worried about bottled water waste? Recycling has been a top priority of Absopure for more than 25 years. In 1988, they became the first water company in the country to recycle its own plastic bottles by establishing their own recycling facility, Clean Tech Incorporated. Invest in an Absopure Water Cooler for Your Home: Absopure resuses and recycles their five-gallon jugs used for their water coolers and they provide free home delivery! Mention code BLOGGER, and they’ll take $2 off your monthly fee!! Visit my post here for more savings.
Stop the Waste: Stop throwing out unwanted food. Cook only what you can eat and be mindful of what’s in your fridge.
Plant a Fruit Tree: Trees emit oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide and a fruit tree bears fruit. You won’t have to run to the store to buy your fruit!
Buy Local: When your food travels a long way to get to your plate it takes a toll on the environment. Buying local helps reduce transportation impacts. Find a local farmer’s market here.
