What does a road trip from Michigan to Florida look like with four kids? Wait for it……you’re about to find out just how much fun we had on the road.
We left our house in Kalamzoo, MI at 7:00am on Saturday, June 7th. We arrived in Clearwater, FL Sunday morning at 6:00am. Yes, we drove straight through with four children.
Here’s all the kiddos fast asleep (minus miss Kylie). We hadn’t even left Michigan when I took this photo. What a blessing because I’m not sure I could have taken the “I’m bored, are we there yet?” question before we even left our home state.
I stocked up on dollar store toys before we left. My friend Joie from Networking Witches told me to get some cheap toys and some brown paper bags and fill them with playing cards, gum, candy bars, coloring crayons, cheap toys, ect. She told me that as I passed each state line I could hand them these pre-filled brown paper goodie bags. They really looked forward to crossing each state.
I think Indiana was the most boring state we had to travel through. Indiana is filled with a lot of farm lands and corn fields. Yes, I’m a country girl, but that doesn’t mean I enjoy staring at wide open fields for hours.
The kids didn’t do as much complaining as I thought they would. I tried to keep TY and JR occupied with a travel bag (their backback) that I filled with colored pencils, books, construction paper, and activity books. I also let them bring a stuffed animal, a blanket, and pillow in the car. TY mainly looked out the window and JR mostly slept through the whole trip.
They were stoked when we finally made it through Indiana and into Kentucky.
I stopped at all the welcome centers along the way and the kids got to pick out brochures that were of interest to them to keep as a souvenir. This was a tradition my mother and father did and I remember the excitement I felt as child.
Here’s a couple pictures of the Kentucky rest stop. Note Kylie’s happy face. She was really excited to have her picture taken, can you tell?
I literally got hoots and hollers and fist pumps from the kids when we made it to Tennessee. Well……all except from Kylie.
The pictures below are of Nashville from the highway. What a beautiful city.
The scenery in Tennessee is simply amazing. The winding roads and the mountains are breath taking.
We even got to see small water falls trickling down the mountain side.
I think Kylie was finally happy when we hit Georgia.
You don’t see any more pictures of Georgia because I fell asleep. I remember waking up to rows and rows of palm trees when we hit Florida and thinking they were the most beautiful and peaceful thing in the world.
All the photos you see above were taken with the HTC phone from Verizon. I would like to thank Verizon Wireless for helping me capture all these great memories of our family vacation.
