So, what exactly is a blogging conference, and why would you want to attend one?
Well, there’s the fancy hotels, the splendid food, charismatic bloggers, generous sponsors, speakers, and, of course, the swag.
This weekend I had the privilege of attending the Mitten Moms Conference, which was created in the hopes that Michigan bloggers would be able to connect with brands and businesses, share experiences as well as gain them, and expand their opportunities.
The Hotel: Adoba Hotel in Dearborn, MI
The hotel in which I stayed was wonderful; my first thought walking in was how it made the most luxurious hotel in Kalamazoo, the Radisson, look small and inconsequential in comparison. There were fourteen floors and four different elevators visiting them all. The world’s largest chandelier hung casually from the ceiling. Needless to say, I was impressed, and hope to visit again.
The Food: We had a delicious lunch consisting of Dijon rubbed beef tenderloin (horseradish cream or parley Dijon), split rolls, and a Caesar salad.
Saturday morning we had breakfast sponsored by UDIM, United Dairy Industry of Michigan. Sorry folks, I was too busy stuffing my face to take pictures.
After breakfast Liz, from the website The Lemon Bowl held a cooking demo. Above is one of the recipes we were treated to for breakfast. If you’d like to make oats steeped in yogurt, milk, honey, and fresh fruit for yourself, just visit this link to Liz’s site.
The next day, Giulio & Sons served up a tasty breakfast right out of the hotel. Chef Philip and the staff certainly aimed to please and struck their goal on the nose. I can’t remember the last time someone pulled out a chair for me. The hubs is going to have to take notes here.
Left side; back to front: Me, Gwendolyn Mulholland writing for Madame Deals, Inc., Candace Reid of Serendipity Mommy, and Shawn Ann Griffith of Shawn Ann’s World
Right side; back to front: Jennifer Rees of Big Binder, Deb Thompson of Just Short Of Crazy, Rachel Hull of Roasted Beanz, and Chef Philip of Giulio & Sons Restaurant.
Please note: Not all of the bloggers that attended were with us for breakfast Sunday. This is not a complete list of attendees.
If you are familiar with the term “swag”–skip this part. If not, read on: Bloggers like free stuff, because they’re people. Brands love to give bloggers free stuff, because they’re businesses, and if we like the product, or it makes an impression on us, we Tweet or write about it, giving them exposure to new crowds. These free goodies are the “swag” I got to bring home.
Lastly, thank you to all the sponsors and especially to Shawn Ann from Shawn Ann’s World for all her dedication and hard work in making the Mitten Moms Conference of 2013 a huge success! For a list of all the speakers and sponsors visit Mitten Moms recap post.
