What are you doing for Advent this year? Do you celebrate? In our family we look forward to celebrating Advent year after year.
We’ve done a lot of stuff over the years. I remember the first year we started we used a homemade Advent wreath. Looking back it really wasn’t all that pretty, but the kids thought it was the most lovely thing in the world. We now use a fully purchased cross wreath with candles (ok so some years they’re not the exact right colors, but I try!)
I like to point out you don’t have to be Catholic to celebrate Advent. We are not Catholic, but love the beauty of the celebration. It helps keep Jesus in Christmas. We get so lost in the hustle and bustle of Christmas we seem to forget about the true meaning. Growing up my mom always baked a cake on Christmas Eve and we sang “Happy Birthday” to Jesus on Christmas day. I cherish that memory.
We’ve done everything from the Jesse Tree, paper chains, online calendars, reading pertaining scripture, and online activities to celebrate Advent every year. This year I was so excited to find an online e-book called Truth in the Tinsel. The author has put together everything I need to make Advent special for the little ones this year!! The bonus is I don’t need to do all the grunt work of planning (who has time for that anyways?!)
